After installing a collection of work last night about beetle galleries, it reminded me of another insect based work I started in Peru in 2017 using the holes in leaves created by caterpillars. When I traced the holes onto paper I saw patterns that reminded me of the milky way. Do all patterns in nature repeat themselves? Is it even a pattern if it is random holes being chewed by a bug? Is anything random, or is everything random? After making the drawings, I felt like it is not random, and when I immerse myself in this kind of work I can’t help but feel close to the energy of the universe. The holes in leaves to chaos theory.
